Families

Dan Roy and FamilyOur family is involved and committed to helping to advance climate solutions here in Washington state.  As new grandparents, my wife Ann and I are deeply concerned about protecting our planet for future generations, for our children and now for our grandson, Andreas.  I worry about the challenges that Andreas and his generation will face, especially climate change.

As a family, we enjoy swimming in Hood Canal, hiking in the Olympics, observing wildlife and having fresh air, clean water, forests and blue skies. We appreciate our precious environment and its spectacular beauty. We want to make sure that our grandson enjoys this beauty and quality of life. So, we definitely feel an urgency to respond to the climate change challenge.

Our commitment to advancing climate solutions is also consistent with our spiritual and religious values. Our tradition and biblical teachings are "rich with ecological guidance and wisdom" that insist we show respect for the land and "Creator through our stewardship of creation." Recently Benedict XVI said, "Before it’s too late, we need to make courageous choices that will recreate a strong alliance between man and Earth. We need a decisive 'yes' to care for creation and a strong commitment to reverse those trends that risk making the situation of decay irreversible."

We believe Washington state is in a great position to be a leader in climate change solutions.  I am confident that by working together we can make a better future for my grandson and all other kids across the world by reducing global warming pollution.  We need our leaders to act and act NOW. There is no time to waste. Solving the climate problem is simply the right thing to do for our families and their future.

Dan Roy and Ann Cacciari live in Olympia, Washington along with their daughter, Marissa, and son-in-law, Marius, and 5 month old grandson, Andreas.

"For me, the health of the climate determines the future of our planet, and so I feel that the most significant legacy I can leave my grandchildren has become my personal work on the issue of climate change." - Clarice McCartan, Olympia
